Background: When the CJ-6 with its 104” wheelbase
was phased out in 1975 Jeep owners clamored for more room. AMC answered with
the CJ-8 Scrambler which was a pickup truck version of the CJ-7 and held many
of the characteristics of the CJ-5 and CJ-7 of that era. The CJ-8 featured a pickup
bed for increased cargo space and a removable half-cab. The longer 103”
wheelbase made it incredibly versatile in off-road situations. Including exports, only 27,792 CJ-8s were
built in the 6 years of production (1981-1986) making this unique Jeep both rare and collectable. Comparatively,
379,299 CJ-7s with its 93.4” wheelbase were built in the 11 years of production
(1976-1986) which is about 14 times as many.

Up for sale is a restored 1982 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler with OE 5-speed manual, 4-wheel drive, 258 cid inline 6 cylinder engine.

Previous Restoration:  Quality paint and color matched liner was
previously applied to the hard top, floor pans, bulkhead, entire bed, tailgate,
back end, wheel tubs, rocker panels, and portions of the quarter panels. Undercoating
was also applied at the same time and all are in good condition which accounts for the excellent condition of the entire body.

Equipment:  OE Manual 5-speed T-5 transmission,
Dana 300 transfer case, Dana 30 front axle, AMC 20 rear axle, 3.31 axle ratios,
and WARN locking hubs. Power front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, power steering,
tilt sport wheel, optional large 20 gallon fuel tank with full steel cover (expensive accessory). Heavy duty
bumpers include a 2” rear receiver and dual tow rings (expensive accessory). WARN 9,000 lb winch model CE
XD9000i with new hand held remote (expensive accessories). Optima Red Top battery (expensive accessory). Firewall mounted
5-pole grounding bus. Custom 15” steel wheels with 31X10.50-LT Super Swamper
tires (expensive accessories). Swing arm tire carrier (expensive accessory). 6” KC trail lights (expensive accessory). Stainless hardware kit for
headlights, hood, windshield, mirrors, antenna, doors, and spare tire stop. Fairly
recent installation of new instrument panel, wiring harness, rear auxiliary
power for game feeder (feeder not included), custom dash switches (trail lights
& feeder), removable floor mounted gun rack (included) and high back vinyl seats which
are all in good condition.

Current Restoration:  Eight month restoration
restored Jeep to great looking and working order. New windshield glass, wiper arms, blades,
and rear view mirror were all installed and the windshield washer system and sun
visors were restored. Hard top interior was repainted and sealed. New OE padded dash was installed.
Doors have restored window regulators, door pull handles, door latches and latch covers. New
door glass, glass guide grommets, door seals, weather stripping, glass sweeps, locking rods, latch
clips, lock cylinders, keys, moisture barriers, OE door panels, window
crank handles, and hole plugs were all installed. The carburetor was professionally rebuilt and new fuel pump, fresh air
intake hose, air filter, fuel filters, fuel hoses, VAC hoses, clamps, fuel
gauge, and 20 gallon fuel sending unit and related accessories were all replaced with new OE parts. The cooling and
heating systems were totally replaced including new radiator, drain plug, cap, water pump,
thermostat, temperature sending unit, temperature gauge, thermal fan clutch, heater core, heater defrost
duct, hoses, clamps, belts etc. Extensive tune up was completed including new spark
plugs, ignition wires, timing, PCV valve, hoses, and valve cover gasket. Lighting
systems were restored including new headlight switch, blinker switch, side markers,
bulbs, fuses, instrument lights, and electrical grounds. The horn switch was restored and a new horn
relay was installed. The coolant, washer fluid, and brake fluid was all flushed and replaced with new. The rear drum
brakes were completely rebuilt, a new emergency foot brake assembly was installed which included new rear wheel emergency brake cables as well as new brake pedal and clutch pedal pads. New shift knob kits, floor mats, floor drain plugs, KC
spotlight covers, shock boots, hood bumpers, bumper end caps, license plate
bracket, and an OEM jack assembly were all replaced. The engine, transmission, front and
rear differentials and transfer case lubricants were all flushed and replaced with new. This Jeep was completely
detailed including creating unique hood, cowl, door, and window decals to compliment the accent colors and to provide a fresh new aggressive look.

Disclosure:  Jeep has no AC or radio. Jeep has a current Harris County-Houston, Texas safety inspection sticker and is
exempt from emissions testing here since it has antique status (25+ years). Driver's door has paint
chips and raised paint visible in photo (see circle). Driver's rear quarter panel has a 1" long dent visible in photo (see circle). Driver’s chair has a tiny tear just above the seat visible in photo (see circle).

Jeep starts up every time and runs and drives great. Drive train shifts smoothly
in all ranges (2H, 4H & 4L). Jeep has a tight turning radius with the factory power steering. Power brakes, emergency brakes, horn, lights (running, signal, park & emergency flashers), all gauges, all instruments, all door locks, all windows, and all accessories including the windshield spray washers all work as they should. Engine does not smoke or run hot. Tires are not new but have
plenty of tread life as shown in photos. Body is straight and solid and virtually rust free (see photos). At freeway speeds of 55 to 65 miles per hour this Jeep holds the road well and tracks straight even with the Super Swamper tires. This Jeep is
fun to drive and turns heads on the Sam Houston Tollway.
